The CAMP Alatoo PF is developing a new training module titled “Integrated Land Use and Natural Resources Management in Central Asia” (ILUMA).
It will become part of the “Environmental Education” component, which is integrated into many of the Foundation’s projects.
The work on the module is being carried out within the project “Promoting Regional Cooperation on Integrated Land Use through Strengthening the GREEN CA Network,” supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented with the assistance of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The ILUMA module is based on a comprehensive approach to managing land and natural resources that considers the interconnection between environmental, social, and economic factors. This approach contributes to achieving sustainable development, preserving biodiversity, and adapting to climate change.
The pilot training of the module took place with lecturers and students of the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after K.I. Skryabin.
The goal of the training was to introduce participants to the concept, content, and structure of ILUMA, as well as to strengthen their knowledge in land management — from sustainable use principles to legal foundations of land use.
In addition to theory, lecturers and students practiced the methodology of teaching ILUMA. In an interactive format, they developed mini-lessons, discussed concepts of natural capital and ecosystem services, explored examples of sustainable land use, and exchanged teaching experiences.
Several sessions focused on integrating the ILUMA module into academic programs. Lecturers selected and adapted topics and exercises to fit their courses, ensuring that the material would be as practical and useful for students as possible.
The training revealed a high level of interest in the new methodology and provided valuable feedback for further improvement of the module. In the near future, ILUMA will be published and distributed among educational institutions and teaching staff.
