CAMP FORUM
The experience of annual forums on sustainable development of Central Asian mountain regions has proven that the Forum, as a multi-level dialogue involving representatives of stakeholders, groups and organizations. Above all it contributes to the establishment of mutual respect and trust, which is an important condition for decisions that would meet the interests of all participants. The Forum allows mountain communities to exchange experience and information, to express their opinions and be heard, to present their initiatives, ideas and to find support for their implementation. The Forum is not limited by regional boundaries and constantly strives to expand the range of participants and discussed issues - from the local to the global level.
CHRONOLOGY
2002 Kyrgyzstan
On the initiative of Kyrgyzstan, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2002 as the International Year of Mountains. The first Conference on Sustainable Mountain Development was held in Bishkek with the support of the Central Asian Mountain Partnership (CAMP) as well as the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC) as founders. Representatives of mountain communities of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and the Alpine Alliance uniting mountain communities of Europe took part in the Conference. As an example of the Alpine Alliance the decision was accepted to create the Alliance of Mountain Communities (AGOCA).
2003 Tajikistan
The second founding conference of the Forum was hosted by the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development and Tourism of the Institute of International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences. 2004 Kazakhstan
Third annual AGOCA conference on Social Mobilisation and Rural Development:
Opportunities and limitations in rural development took place in Almaty. The event was held with technical assistance from the CAMP program and with the financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
2005 Kyrgyzstan
An International Conference "The Role of Local Self-Government in Sustainable Development" was held in Bishkek. The conference was attended by representatives from the Alliance of Mountain Communities of Central Asia (AGOCA) and from mountain villages in the Alps, the Caucasus, the Carpathians, the Altai Mountains, and Mongolia. The meeting was sponsored by the CAMP Program, Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), eight member countries of the Alpine Convention and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
2006 Tajikistan
The Central Asian Mountain Partnership (CAMP) is a network of CAMP's successor organizations - CAMP Alatoo PF in Kyrgyzstan, CAMP Consulting in Kazakhstan, CAMP Kuhiston in Tajikistan and AGOCA. AGOCA initiated a Forum on Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions in Central Asia on the occasion of the Annual Forum for Sustainable Mountain Development in Central Asia. The event was held with technical assistance from the CAMP program and with the financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
The Forum is not limited by regional boundaries and constantly strives to expand the range of participants and discussed issues - from the local to the global level.
2007 Kazakhstan
The CAMP Forum on sustainable development of mountain regions of Central Asia was held in Almaty under the title "Cooperation with state structures at the level of local communities". The event was financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC). The Soros Foundation in Tajikistan supported the participation of a Tajik delegation in the Forum.
2008 Kyrgyzstan
CAMP Forum on sustainable development of mountain regions of Central Asia "Mountain communities and business structures - dialogue and ways of cooperation" took place in Bishkek. Organizations that supported and actively participated in the preparation and holding of the forum: Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany (BMU), National Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic for self-government, UNDP program "Environmental Protection for Sustainable Development", Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), Swiss Association for International Cooperation Helvitas, Soros Foundation, Agency for Development and Community Investment (ARIS).
2009 Tajikistan
Forum "Labor Migration in Central Asia - Problems and Solutions" was held in Dushanbe. It was devoted to the problems of labor migration with a special focus on the gender aspect. The event was organized by CAMP network in cooperation with ACTED (Agency for Technical Development and Cooperation) with financial support from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), International Organization for Migration (IOM) and University of Central Asia (UCA).
2010 Kazakhstan
CAMP Forum "Central Asian Mountain Societies in a changing climate - a call to action. Local perspectives of local challenges". The organization of the meeting was possible with the support of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) of Germany, Mountain Partnership (International Mountain Alliance) and the GIZ Regional Program on Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in Central Asia.
2011 Kyrgyzstan
The CAMP Forum "Mountain Environmental Products - Challenges and Opportunities for Central Asian Mountain Communities" took place in Bishkek. The forum aimed at defining the potential of organic products in mountain regions, the obstacles and benefits of manufacturing such products. The event was supported by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) of Germany and technical assistance from the International Mountain Partnership.
2012 Tajikistan
CAMP Forum on Sustainable Land Management was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, under the financial support of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
2013 Kyrgyzstan
On 27-29 August, the CAMP Forum on Sustainable Development of Mountain Communities in Central Asia took place in Bishkek with the theme "Energy-Efficiency-Future: Access and Innovation for Mountain Communities in Central Asia". The Forum was held with the financial support of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the Ministry of the Environment, Land Use Planning, Agriculture and Forestry of the Principality of Liechtenstein, and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). Additional support was provided by the CAMP Alatoo PF through its network of partners in Central Asia and the Unison PF.
